On a wine trip that I led to the Ronda area today with a group of people from Singapur, I was surprised to see grapes being brought into the winery, as I thought everything in the area had already been picked and was either undergoing alcoholic or malolactic fermentation . In the photo below you can see Petit Verdot grapes which are being sorted before going into a fermentation vat that looks like an enormous plant pot..

In another winery that we visited, they were using a basket press to extract wine from the skins (see photo below) which had been left after draining off the fermented free-run wine from a stainless steel vat.
